Creating Footers

WordPress roles required: Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor

To create a footer, click on the Templates tab in WordPress, select ‘Theme Builder’, go to the Footer tab, and ‘Add New Template’. The Elementor template page builder will open showing the header we have just created. You will not be able to edit the header on this page. Now you are ready to create the footer for the website.

For this footer, we will need to add a new section with 1 column. Select the section, click on the advanced tab, and set the padding and margins to zero. Now we are going to apply a background image to the footer. Select the section again, go into Style, Background, and Background type. This will open up the background editing section. Click on the image box to apply the background image. This will open up the Media Library. If you haven’t already uploaded your background image to the media library, you can go ahead and upload your image and press insert media.

To adjust the height of the footer section, select the section and go to the editing panel. Click on Layout and you will see the ‘Height’ option. Change this to ‘Min high’. Now you will be able to assign a height for this section. For this footer, we have chosen 200 pixels.

Now we have applied the footer background and chosen the height, we need to configure the column, this is where we will add the content for the footer.

Highlight the whole section again, click on the layout tab in the widget editing panel, make sure the content width is set to ‘Boxed’ and make the width 1000 pixels wide which is the same width we applied for the column in the header. To ensure the text that will go into this section isn’t too close to the top of the footer, you can add padding to the top of the section by clicking ‘Advanced’ in the editing panel and adding the desired padding. In this example, we applied 30 pixels to the top padding.

To add text in the column, click on the 9 little dots at the top of the editing panel, find the Text Editor widget and drag this into the column.

Once you have added the text into the footer column, you are ready to save the template. Click on publish, add a condition to include this to the entire site just like we did for the header, then save and close.
