Creating Navigation Menus

WordPress roles required: Administrator

To create a navigation menu, go into WordPress and click on Appearance > Menus to open up the menu screen. In the ‘Menu Name’ field, add the name of your menu here. You can call this menu ‘headerNav’. When you have added the name, click on the ‘Create Menu’ button in the bottom right.

Once we have created and saved a menu, we can now add the pages that we would like to appear in the navigation. On the left-hand side, you will see a section called ‘Add menu items’. In this section, you can select any Page or Post to add to the menu. You can even create custom links. These can be links to external web pages or links to pages on your site. In this example, we created custom links for this navigation as the pages that we would like to link to haven’t been built yet. When these pages are built, we will go back into this menu section and add the pages to the navigation menu.

Adding Navigation Menus To A Page Template

Open up the header template in Elementor, go to the widget panel, and search for the ‘Nav Menu’ template. Drag this widget into the column where you would like the navigation to go. You will need to make sure that the correct navigation has been inserted. To check or change the menu, go to the editing panel and click on ‘Content’. There you will see a drop-down option where you can select which menu you would like to appear. Select the correct menu. For this navigation, we need the ‘headerNav’ menu.
