What Are Templates

Page templates are specific types of files that can be applied to a page or groups of pages. Page templates can be used for the following:

  • Page templates are used to change the look and feel of a page.
  • A page template can be applied to a single page, a page section, or a class of pages.
  • If a page template has a template name, WordPress users editing the page have control over what template will be used to render the page.

Page templates can also be used to display dynamic content on a page, e.g., posts, news updates, calendar events, media files, etc. You may decide that you want your homepage to look a certain way, which is quite different from other parts of your site. Or, you may want to display a featured image that links to a post on one part of the page, have a list of the latest posts elsewhere, and use a custom navigation.

In the template section, you will see templates for individual pages, individual sections, and any global widgets you have on your website. You also have an option to have popups and theme builders. In the theme builder template section, you will find the headers and footers used on your website. When you create a header or footer template, any changes made will automatically appear on all pages (and posts). So, there is no need to edit individual pages. To add a new template, go to the relevant template section, and click on ‘Add New’.
